Oh rejection, we have become such good friends.
So, to preface, I have sent out a few queries over the past few months. And with those few queries I have gotten rejections. Funny thing though, one, they have actually emailed me back with their responses, which I find incredibly amazing. Literary agents are so busy. Honestly, considering how many queries they have to read, along with the clients the already have and so on and so on, I am alway grateful when they respond back. And two, they have been the nicest rejections ever.
The gist of my rejections: Very interesting story, but doesn’t fit out client list/don’t believe I’m the right person to represent it effectively. Publishing is very subjective by nature. Don’t be discouraged. Best of luck with your writing! Hope you find a good home for it!
Each one has been some variation of this. It’s both very encouraging and very discouraging at the same time. Before I sent out any of my queries, I researched like crazy, and truly thought that I was sending my MS to people who would like it and could represent it. So either I am not researching enough, or the rejections are just saying nice things to ease the blow…. Not sure which it is, but I’m going to hope it’s the first.
